Dragon Season Interviews Colin Johanson - Alliance chat coming maybe?
Colin Johanson sat down with Dragon Season over lunch and they had quite a lengthy conversation ranging from player produced content, UI modifications & more. The greatest piece of news of the interview was the discussion about Guild Missions. There's also a tidbit of an upcoming Alliance Chat? Hmm..
What can we anticipate from guild missions?
Colin: It's really spread out all over the Guild Wars 2 gold game & it depends upon which type of mission you're doing. There are basically 5 entirely different varieties of missions & dependant on which one it is - bounty hunts, for instance, is the really common 1, that's the one that you can get right off the bat when [February's] release first goes out. You genuinely are obliged to unlock all of the other missions types, so it is practically going to take months for your guild to construct up enough influence to unlock all of them. It can often be a progression here, [...] it is most often unlock tree just like any of the other guild abilities, so you make your way down all that stuff & you'll use influence to kick off missions as well. So, finally, you will have a use for that giant pile of influence. Quite a few guilds are in all probability going to tear by means of really speedily cause they've got big piles of it however it's going to take a while. With bounty hunts, you could pick which tier of bounty hunts you go on and it randomly generates bosses in distinct zones that get spawned for the reason that the bounty hunt began and it spreads your guild out all over the place. In case you do a really big bounty hunt it will in reality spread your guild across five different zones, where there is a boss in each and you've, say, 15 minutes to kill all 5 of them. So, you really need to split your guild into five distinct groups and send them to all the maps & find them to take them out.
Much of us have minimal guilds, we do not have 500 members & a number of challenges could prove quite challenging. Are we going to see any collaboration mechanisms set in place?
Colin: Our hope will be that [collaborations] will kinda dynamically come out of this as type of emergent gameplay. The bounties, for instance, have different tiers so there is a nominal tier that you can do - even small guilds can get those - you've got three bosses in 3 zones so maybe 10-15 folks can do that, a little guild, and you can pick which tier you need to kick off dependant on how quite a few people you've got online. Perhaps 1 of the things that will come out of that is "our guild is going to do the tier 3 bounty which takes a lot more individuals to do, so let's get 3 guilds together and our guild will kick 1 off and you will help us do ours and then you'll kick 1 off & we'll help us do yours" plus the three guilds all work together to accomplish [it]. I think that kind of emergent gameplay hopefully will come out of that for positive. We do not honestly know what to anticipate just due to the fact it is so difficult to test internally to see what guilds are going to do [when all this goes] live. So, a lot of this really is going to [emerge] when we put it out and we are just going to see how guilds interact with it & what they do after which it will help us determine what other features and additions we need to work on.

Upgrade the open world of Guild Wars 2 Guild missions through
The update of February Guild Wars 2 features including mechanisms missions guilds. Colin Johanson operation in detail, to mobilize players toward a common goal.
On February 26, Guild Wars 2 will host its next monthly update, with a lot of new content and features: it introduces mechanisms "living history" of the MMORPG, integrates new PvP map or a system of "missions guilds "(the studio ArenaNet recently proposed an overview of new developments). Pending the deployment of the update, Colin Johanson between a little more detail in the columns of MMORPG.com.
Bulk, he said that such a system of "living history" of Guild Wars 2 (which is to change the game world to the rhythm of a narrative that will become the storyline of Tyria) aims to retain the player with content recurrent. The mechanism is conceived as "your favorite TV series, you do not want to miss an episode to follow the unfolding of history or the wanderings of your favorite character," with the difference that in the MMO, the Guild Wars 2 gold player is also (slightly ) actor of this story.
But he returns especially in the system of "missions guilds," that this feature is part of the project developer to upgrade the "open world" of Guild Wars 2.
"The mission system is a guild improvement of our events, but for guilds and the entire universe. The system allows players to guilds work together to unlock upgrades that allow them to participate in missions together. These missions are initiated by specific guild who is interested, but then everyone can participate to help the guild achieve its objectives. The missions are designed so that some aspects can not be made by the guild, but others are open to all, so that everyone can participate at their level.
More specifically, this system allows guilds to literally create content in the game world, for anyone who wants to try. When one of its missions is created, most often, you'll see a banner with the name of the initiator and guild emblem. There are two objectives: it is an effective recruitment tool for guilds to encourage the curious to join in its mission, or to integrate the guild. And it also means that guilds can earn notoriety in their world. The most active become more famous and important in the community.
And there are several kinds of missions that guilds can run in each category, there are several different types of challenges around the world.
To give an example, one of the categories is a "rush guild" [a kind of race goals]. When a guild creates a task type "guild rush" in the world in a rush points, a count-down is initiated and the distance must be X number of times in the time allotted for the guild out its mission. If a sufficient number (or higher) players fulfills the mission in time, the guild gets a reward which may take the form of a bonus for the entire guild. Everyone can help get his reward, and the rush does not stop before the end of the timer, so everyone has a chance to participate even when the minimum target has been reached. And all participants are rewards, they are members of the guild or not, but the rewards are different guilds or you are not. '
Is well known, guilds cement communities and an important factor in retaining gw2 gold players. It is understandable that the developer tends to the more involved in the game world are also readily imagine different types of missions (especially in the context of fighting PvP or sprints in dungeons).
But according to Colin Johanson, first time, these missions do offer guilds, however, that PvE objectives, thus relying on strictly cooperative missions. The developer explains this choice: these missions have a vocation obviously fun but mainly social, they are not to pit players against each other. But these choices may change.

Guild Wars 2′s most current patch kicks off a "living story"
In accordance with ArenaNet, the most recent Guild Wars 2 patch - Flame & Frost Prelude - sees the birth of the Guild Wars 2 gold game's new "living story". It is nominal, pink & wriggly at the moment, but the developers plan for it to grow over many updates into a tale that could result in dramatic changes to the world of Tyria. A post on the ArenaNet weblog explains the Living Story team's plan.
"The job of the Living Story team is to bring the world to life," writes narrative designer Angel McCoy. "On an ongoing basis, we'll spin out story threads that will introduce you to new heroic characters, mysterious plot twists, and dramatic moments that impact the world."
With Flame and Frost, that story is only being hinted at. "You could participate by volunteering to help the refugees streaming down from the Shiverpeaks in both the Wayfarer Foothills & Diessa Plateau. These refugees have lost their residences & their loved ones. They're arriving in the Black Citadel and Hoelbrak with little more than the clothes and battered armor on their backs."
McCoy claims that each portion of the story will be available for a restricted period of time, nevertheless will have a repercussions on the world. "The Living Story is simultaneously transitory and permanent. As the story arcs play out, the tale evolves." To ensure you don't miss out on something, a brand new Living Story Achievements category will guide you to the relevant characters and locations.
"Story arcs will play out over time. You won't necessarily know how long an arc is, & a few could take months to fully unfold. We're weaving quite a few plot threads together to make 1 massive cohesive world, a river of story, a living world."
