Dragon Season Interviews Colin Johanson - Alliance chat coming maybe?

Colin Johanson sat down with Dragon Season over lunch and they had quite a lengthy conversation ranging from player produced content, UI modifications & more. The greatest piece of news of the interview was the discussion about Guild Missions. There's also a tidbit of an upcoming Alliance Chat? Hmm..

What can we anticipate from guild missions?

Colin: It's really spread out all over the Guild Wars 2 gold game & it depends upon which type of mission you're doing. There are basically 5 entirely different varieties of missions & dependant on which one it is - bounty hunts, for instance, is the really common 1, that's the one that you can get right off the bat when [February's] release first goes out. You genuinely are obliged to unlock all of the other missions types, so it is practically going to take months for your guild to construct up enough influence to unlock all of them. It can often be a progression here, [...] it is most often unlock tree just like any of the other guild abilities, so you make your way down all that stuff & you'll use influence to kick off missions as well. So, finally, you will have a use for that giant pile of influence. Quite a few guilds are in all probability going to tear by means of really speedily cause they've got big piles of it however it's going to take a while. With bounty hunts, you could pick which tier of bounty hunts you go on and it randomly generates bosses in distinct zones that get spawned for the reason that the bounty hunt began and it spreads your guild out all over the place. In case you do a really big bounty hunt it will in reality spread your guild across five different zones, where there is a boss in each and you've, say, 15 minutes to kill all 5 of them. So, you really need to split your guild into five distinct groups and send them to all the maps & find them to take them out.

Much of us have minimal guilds, we do not have 500 members & a number of challenges could prove quite challenging. Are we going to see any collaboration mechanisms set in place?

Colin: Our hope will be that [collaborations] will kinda dynamically come out of this as type of emergent gameplay. The bounties, for instance, have different tiers so there is a nominal tier that you can do - even small guilds can get those - you've got three bosses in 3 zones so maybe 10-15 folks can do that, a little guild, and you can pick which tier you need to kick off dependant on how quite a few people you've got online. Perhaps 1 of the things that will come out of that is "our guild is going to do the tier 3 bounty which takes a lot more individuals to do, so let's get 3 guilds together and our guild will kick 1 off and you will help us do ours and then you'll kick 1 off & we'll help us do yours" plus the three guilds all work together to accomplish [it]. I think that kind of emergent gameplay hopefully will come out of that for positive. We do not honestly know what to anticipate just due to the fact it is so difficult to test internally to see what guilds are going to do [when all this goes] live. So, a lot of this really is going to [emerge] when we put it out and we are just going to see how guilds interact with it & what they do after which it will help us determine what other features and additions we need to work on.
